Ads and Priorities
I'm guessing most people have Spotify these days, right? Or iTunes or something like that. I have no clue about iTunes, but Spotify really gets my goat every single time. The instant the momentum starts to build up or the playlist gets to the good part, in comes an advertisement.
"Pyaaaari baarish ho rahi thi. Chai aur pakode bhi ready the."
I swear to God, I've forgotten about tests, groceries, appointments, but I doubt I'll ever be able to get this irritating jingle out of my head. Just get Spotify Premium. If any of you thought that, not happening. I'll spend money on music when I have to watch an opera or a live event, but not on Spotify. Doesn't matter how cheap it is, I'd rather spend that money on something else.
I know I'm sounding obstinate there (or maybe not, I'm not inside your heads, unfortunately), but it's the truth. There are enough things to worry about without a Spotify Premium subscription. I'd rather listen on YouTube, honestly speaking. At least most ads can be skipped. Unless it's by Apple- those buggers are unskippable.
I haven't been worrying about anything, exactly, but it's not like I've been as free as a bird lately either. Those guys are on a different level of freedom altogether. Yes, the pet ones can't fly and that is a really bad side, no question. But other than that, what do they have to complain about? Eat from a million sources, sleep in a nest you have to make, poop anywhere. That's easier than humans have it.
Anyways, back to ads and songs. You know that moment when you just look at your shuffled playlist and the order is perfect? That feeling is gold. Some days, you see songs you like, but they're just not vibe-worthy. Playlists take a lot of time and effort to make. That's one reason why I don't make them at all. I just fast-forward through the songs until I reach the ones I want.
I haven't used Spotify for a while now, come to think of it. You see, before I came to Calcutta for the hols, I had one very specific aim in mind. I had to use that 10GB daily Wi-fi data to download as many songs as I possibly could. That's easier said than done. First off, which songs? Secondly, I had exams. Thirdly, I had to deal with some real nut jobs at that time.
Yeah, you heard me. I was prioritizing my song selection over my exams. It's called dedication. I wasn't going to try out dedication on something as important as my studies without giving it a trial on something else first. Now that's called prudence. Call my thought process crazy if you will, but that's the way it works. At least I've given up completing novels the night before my exam. That was a different kind of drug, I tell you.
Speaking of drugs- music is one, there's no debate about that. Books are a different breed altogether- they're an acquired taste, I suppose. Once you get used to it, you're hooked. People are another category, I think. They'll get you to become dependent while knowing that they're bad for you. Once you kick the habit, it'll take a lot of work to stay afloat, but afloat you'll have to stay. It's tough, but you knew the risks. That's how it works. Well, these drugs are better than many others, so I guess it's alright. Take care, everybody. Adios!
